Hogan Retrofit

Project Scope:

 

Provide additional bedrooms, bathroom and common area to accomodate a growing family.  Construct new second floor over the existing garage per plans and specifications.

 

Demolition Green Goals:

 

Steel roof panels to be carefully removed, stored and reused on new structure.

Wood materials to be chipped for mulch and used onsite in landscaping beds.

Metals and plastics to be sorted and recycled using Waste Managements C&D recycling program.

Remove and store garage door operator for reinstallation.

Remove and store Solar Panels for reinstallation.

Ensure protection of existing trees, landscaping and control stormwater runoff.

 

New Construction Green Goals:


Recycle cardboard, paper, plastics and metals to be converted into new goods.

Recycle clean wood for onsite mulch or biomass fuel.

Construction Debris reduction goal of 50%.

Provide low to no VOC finish alternatives.

Source materials and services from 500 mile or less radius.

Furnish and install high efficiency windows from localized manufacturer.

Provide ultra-low flow plumbing fixture alternatives for new construction and existing fixture replacement.

Provide HVAC options for air-filtration of new and existing systems.

Demolition, all in all, went well.  As with any remodeling project there are always unknown's that are bound to occur.  We had only one and have re-engineered the structure to accomodate the site conditions.

FINISHED RESULTS

BAMBOO FLOORING, A RAPIDLY RENEWABLE RESOURCE, WAS INSTALLED THROUGHOUT THE ADDED SPACE AND USED ALSO FOR THE STAIR TREADS.

INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY WAS PRESERVED BY USING NO VOC PAINTS, ADHESIVES AND CAULKS AND NO UREA FORMALDAHYDE BINDERS.
